Grape Tempranillo

The Tempranillo grape, native to La Rioja, is considered the most characteristic variety of the Denomination of Origin. Likewise, it is authorized in 28 denominations of origin distributed throughout the country (12 of which consider it as the main variety) and is grown in other countries such as France, Portugal, Australia, Argentina and the United States. It is noteworthy that, depending on the climate and the land on which it is grown, we will find very different wines.

If we focus on the vine, we can say that it is a variety of coarse-grained and blue-black colored grape that is characterized by needing very specific climatic conditions (areas with high insolation and very cold night temperatures) and some altitudes relatively high and, also, for being very sensitive to pests and diseases and little resistant to high temperatures and drought. What distinguishes it from the others is its early maturation cycle and its medium or late sprouting.

If instead we focus on the wine produced by the tempranillo grape, we can say that it is a high quality wine, with good body, aromatic complexity and high alcohol content and low acidity. It is not a variety rich in tannins, so the wines are fine, kind and silky in the mouth. In addition, they have an intense red color and with violet nuances in their youth and aromas of ripe red fruit, wild fruits, vanilla, tobacco, chocolate and herbal and floral touches.

Finally, it is important to emphasize that the wines produced with Tempranillo grapes can be consumed young; However, the highest quality are those that age in oak barrels.
