The Godello variety is a white grape native to the north-eastern regions of the Iberian Peninsula. It is found throughout Galicia, North of Portugal and in the DO Bierzo. It is a variety of uncertain origin although the first traces lead us to s. XII and place it in the lands of Castilla y León, in El Bierzo.

The strain has an aspect and general characteristics that has often been confused with the Verdejo variety. The clearest difference between the two varieties lies in the leaf, in its beam and back.

It is a variety of maturation and early sprouting, which makes it sensitive to frost. It is a fertile plant with good yields. Sensitive to cluster moths and powdery mildew. Not so much like Botrytis cinecea.

It presents branches of erect carriage. The clusters are of medium to small size, compact and conical with small shoulders. The berry is small, ovoid, with hard skin and intense green color with small spots.

The white wines of the Godello variety have a good acidity, powerful and fresh aromas and citrus. They tend to evolve well.

The white wines of Godello de Galicia, or Bierzo, aged in barrels, offer impressive nuances, complex and elegant. Also, the young wines of the Godello grape are increasingly valued.
