Grape Graciano

Its origin, although uncertain, flows from the lands of La Rioja. Therefore, it is part of the assemblages of some of the best large reserves of the Rioja and Navarra denominations of origin. Currently, graciano is being established in other wine-growing areas of Spain due to its great potential.

As it is a low-yield grape, it is not very accidental to find large crops of it. As a general rule, it is being grown in the same vineyard with other varieties. Its evolution is facilitated in arid and hot climates, supporting the colder climates in a worse way. The vine plant produces a minimum amount of flavored berries, which are usually harvested, like some other varieties, at the end of October, considering this a late harvest.

As a representative character of this variety, it is observed that its bunch has two short cylindrical shoulders. The berries are smaller than the rest and have a rounded shape. The color of the grain is very dark. Its pulp is hard and colorless. This variety is potentially resistant, that is, it holds up well against possible diseases that may attack it.

Coming, it is believed, from La Rioja, today this variety is trying to reach different areas of Spain. The Graciano grape is recommended in the autonomous communities of Navarra, the Basque Country and La Rioja, while its authorization also extends to Andalusia, Cantabria, Castilla-La Mancha, Castilla y León, Extremadura and the Valencian Community. From its origin until now, there have always been low harvests, but this grape is key, as we said before in the large reserves of Rioja and Navarra, providing a precise character for aging.
