Javier Sanz Viticultor
The winery Javier Sanz Viticultor is located in La Seca, the heart of the Rueda Denomination of Origin. Javier Sanz is the great-grandson and successor of Agustín Nanclares, who began this tradition by cultivating the vineyards on his property called Villa Narcisa. Now, he has assumed the reins of this winery combining, in perfect harmony, tradition and modernity. The geographical location of the wineries and vineyards is essential to understand the quality of their wines. It is in La Seca (Valladolid), with its vineyards next to the Ribera del Duero (some even only 1,500 meters from the Douro River), where there is the highest concentration of vineyards in the entire river basin. The total area of La Seca covers 2,744 hectares, twice as much as in the immediately lower town. In addition, in this town there are 16 wineries, of which 14 belong to wine growers, and two cooperatives. Among all the wineries are able to produce and process more than 20 million kilos of grapes of the total 60 million O.D. Wheel.
The proximity of the Javier Sanz winery to the vineyards, located in the first banks of the Ribera del Duero, facilitates an almost immediate transfer of the grapes after harvesting, taking a maximum of four hours, thus keeping intact all their properties and aromas. The Javier Sanz winery has 104 hectares of cultivated vineyards. The surface is composed of sand and boulders and the subsoil by a clayey layer, which favors ventilation and natural drainage of the vines. These unique characteristics that are found in the town of La Seca, together with the microclimate of the area, are what differentiate us from other Verdejos of the D.O. Wheel.
The knowledge and know-how are the main assets of a winery that takes great care in the whole process of making their wines. This tradition was maintained over the years until in 1995 the Villa Narcisa brands were created, currently their "flagship product", and later Holy King. The work to offer the best product, begins with a special care in the most traditional relationship between the winegrower and the vine, to culminate with a modern winemaking process that manages to faithfully preserve all this family philosophy of winemaking.
